Bees and Trees Uganda
Uganda | Bees and Trees envisions communities living in harmony with nature. Recognizing that agriculture is one of the biggest drivers of deforestation, landslides, soil degradation and biodiversity loss in the Elgon region, the initiative was founded to motivate smallholder farmers to integrate trees into their farms. They fundraise and gift beehives and coffee seedlings to smallholder farmers, encouraging them to plant coffee shade trees and bee forage species. As a social enterprise, Bees and Trees also provides a market for their honey and coffee, adding value and selling to consumers. The extra income from honey and coffee is a safety net when they make agricultural losses due to climate disasters, while the trees and bees contribute to landscape restoration, climate change mitigation, and pollination.
