The Infrastructure of Influence

Big Ideas for Sustaining Global Cooperation

Time

18:30–20:00 SAST
Location
Johannesburg

This high-level discussion, co-organized with the T20 Secretariat, will convene 20–25 senior voices from the G20 finance and sherpa tracks, leading think tanks, the private sector, and civil society to share bold, actionable ideas for Multilateralism 2.0, exploring how global cooperation can be sustained and revitalized even as formal spaces for dialogue narrow.
The central question, “Minilateralism vs. Global Consensus-Building”, will frame a forward-looking debate on how climate clubs, technology alliances, and regional pacts can complement rather than fragment global governance.

Key Objectives

  • Sherpa–Finance Track Linkages: Integrate governance priorities into finance workstreams where political space allows.
  • Informal & Track-II Diplomacy: Mobilize think tanks, academia, business, and civil society to sustain reform agendas between presidencies.
  • Multilateral Foresight Hub Network: Strengthen regional foresight hubs across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas to expand collective influence.
  • Cross-Forum Agenda Setting: Align G20 initiatives with G7, UNGA, COP, and WTO processes to reinforce global policy coherence.

Discussions will be held under Chatham House Rules to encourage open, strategic dialogue.
