Head of Department 1: Global Health; Economy; Trade; Rural Development of the
Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Dirk Meyer studied History and German at the University of Bielefeld and at University
College Cork in Ireland. Following his academic training, he was head of the MEP
(Member of the European Parliament) office in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. From 1996 to 2018,
Mr. Meyer worked in various state ministries in North Rhine-Westphalia, most recently
as head of department in the Ministry for Innovation, Science and Research of the state
of North Rhine-Westphalia. From April 2018 to December 2021 he was head of
department at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and
Nuclear Safety.
