Five Full Scholarships for International Winter School: From Extracting to Intersecting
*NEW DATES* November 28 - December 8, 2022 at O.P. Jindal Global University (Sonipat, India)
Applications are closed! We will inform successful applicants by August 25, 2022
The Centre for Sustainability (CFS) of Jindal School of Government & Public Policy is holding the first international summer school ‘From Extracting to Intersecting’ in cooperation with the Global Solutions Initiative Foundation (GSI, Berlin) and GIZ, and is supported by the Circular Economy Solutions Dialogues. It will be hosted on the campus of OP Jindal Global University in Sonipat, India.
Since the industrial revolution, extraction of resources from nature has fueled industrial and economic growth. The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted how much we now depend on digital technologies. As the world is more digitalized, global consumption of resources and waste production continue to grow exponentially. As global supply and value chains are facing growing disruptions, it is time to bend the linear economy within planetary boundaries.
The summer school will discuss how “Intersecting”, as a concept, could reverse material and cognitive extractive processes through a transition towards circularity powered by the tools of a creative economy and aiming at inclusive socio-ecological systems. The summer school will focus on operationalizing the Intersecting model. It will look at ground-level projects and connect them with broader societal and global developmental issues. It addresses a new generation of researchers and entrepreneurs that need to learn from each other.
The summer school is a preparatory event of the international Intersecting conference “Crisis and Transformation”, which will take place at the start of India’s G20 presidency in 2023.
Week 1 – Intersecting entrepreneurship and research
The selected participants will confront their vision of building sustainability using the Intersecting framework. They will interact on a daily basis with leading guest experts (on-site and hybrid) from the G20, G7, ASEAN, African Union, UN, MDB and more.
Participants will work in small teams and cooperate to develop actionable proposals, establishing linkages across the following 5 themes:
- Social-ecological systems
- Circular economy
- Creative economy
- Development cooperation
- Threats to multilateralism
Weekend
Cultural program: Off-campus excursion
Week 2 – Intersecting projects and policies
The teams design their projects in view of the ideas articulated during Week 1 and present their proposals at the end of the program. Best ideas will be selected for the preparation in the 2023 international Intersecting Conference and participants will be invited to contribute to the next volume of INTERSECTING (to be published in 2023).
