Co-founder & Executive Director, Planet Indonesia
Adam envisions a world where true community-led conservation thrives. He first moved to Indonesia in 2013 to study birds. He was conducting research in a national park, living with an Indigenous community on the island of Borneo. One evening, he asked the family he was living with what “conservation” meant to them. They said, “it means being prohibited to do things by the government and by white people.” It became clear to him in this moment that conservation and climate solutions were not working for local communities. He hung up my binoculars and became a reluctant social entrepreneur.
