Elena Martínez Martínez is the co-founder and CTO of SOS Biotech, the first Dominican Republic BlueTech initiative, where she leads efforts to transform marine resources, particularly invasive seaweed, into sustainable, innovative products that support coastal communities. As an oceanographer with two master’s degrees in Applied Blue Biotechnology and a PhD in progress, her expertise lies at the intersection of the blue economy, sustainability, and climate action. She’s part of the first cohort of Big Bets Climate Fellows of the Rockefeller Foundation and of the 2024 MIT SOLVE Climate Challenges.
