Founder & CEO, Kimuli Collections
Juliet Namujju is the founder and CEO of Kimuli Collections. She grew up in poverty as an orphan with a single grandmother in a remote village in Uganda due to the victimization of disability. Her Grandmother was a tailor and inspired her as a child to use cut-offs and plastic waste to produce her own dolls because she could not afford buying her toys. What others threw away; Julie started to see it as a resource. After attaining a certificate in fashion and design at the age of 20, in 2016, she joined Social Innovation Academy (SINA) which empowers marginalized youth to become social entrepreneurs, where she underwent training in leadership, social entrepreneurship and, business start-up and mentoring. With the help of this foundation, Julie founded Kimuli Collections as a sustainable fashion label transforming the waste crisis in Africa into employment opportunities for disabled tailors and to fight for the conservation of the environment. Julie first showcased her upcycled fashion in Germany at the Bildkorrekturren Fair Fashion Conference in 2017. Her innovative work has since earned her numerous accolades, including the Ugandan Ye-Community Award (2018) and a TEEP Fellowship. She was notably honored by Ban-Ki-Moon as a “Global Greenpreneur Award Winner” in Seoul, Korea, and also received the “Best Young Employer of the Year” award in Uganda.
