Juwon Samuel Afolayan

Juwon Samuel Afolayan is a doctoral researcher at the Erasmus Darwin Sustainability Complex of Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom, where he researches into the development of next-generation functional biomaterials for diverse applications. The environmental enthusiast holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Kwara State University Nigeria, with First Class honors. His notable contributions to the water subject span journal publications, public speaking, and contribution to youth strategies and declarations. His publications cover important water subjects such as water economics, alternative water treatment technologies, hybridization of water response and metal toxicity in water. On the social front, he has remarkable national and international contributions towards water development. He has recently served as a UNICEF delegate and panelist at the Youth and Children forum during the Dushanbe Water Process (Tajikistan, 2022). He was a guest speaker on the 3rd Philippines Sustainability Conference (2022), guest speaker at the Asian Water Week (sponsored by Asian Development Bank), a contributor to the water generation workshop hosted by the International Secretariat for Water (France, 2022), and a panelist on the UNESCO-organized European-African Union Mega Pre Conference on Water, Megacities and Global Change, where he represented the African youths. He is the current coordinator of the chapters working group at the World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW), and a winner of the prestigious Kofi Annan Foundation Changemaker Award, 2022. He is the Initiator of the Intergenerational Dialogue and Capacity Development Initiative, aimed at capacity building and enterprise creation amongst Young Water Professionals (YWPs) and Entrepreneurs of African Descent. His signature approach to water is to promote the hybridization of water response, ensuring equitable access to quality and usable water.
