Algeria | Oumaima Bendjama is a doctor and a social entrepreneur. She is also a member of the SafirLab network of social entrepreneurs in North Africa and the Middle East. As a lifelong engaged activist in pursuing social impact, she applied to the Study in the US Institute Program for social entrepreneurship and was among the 5 people selected to participate. After the program, she founded STEPS and won the Alumni Engagement Innovation award. Oumaima successfully pitched STEPS in La Nuit des idées in Tunisia, in Convergence World Forum in Paris, and in front of diplomats, public entities, and embassies in Algiers. STEPS is a social enterprise that aims to create a generation of Algerian innovative scientists and engineers who are engaged citizens by designing and delivering education sciences and technology curricula.
