The rapid acceleration in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) poses significantpotential for society along with large scale risks. The transformative potential of AI cannot berealised without the protection of fundamental human rights and dignity and the principlesof transparency and fairness. G7 countries have an opportunity to take a leading role inthe governance, development, and distribution of this technology, paving the way to theengagement of G20 countries and the whole international community. In this brief we explorepotential solutions to large scale problems regarding governance, standardisation, and thedevelopment of advanced AI. The proposals relate to the development of standards, the useof scientific collaboration as a method for development and governance, the essential role ofhuman-centred education, and digital empowerment of people.
