Naoyuki Yoshino

Prof. Dr. Naoyuki Yoshino is Professor Emeritus of Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, Director of the Financial Research Center (“FSA Institute”) at the Financial Services Agency (Government of Japan) and chairperson of the Japanese Government Bond Investors Meeting (Ministry of Finance).

He was the Dean/CEO of the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo (2014-2020) and served as Lead Chair of T20 Japan in 2019, working on multilateralism and global infrastructure.

Naoyuki’s professional career includes membership in numerous government committees. He was appointed as Chair of the Financial Planning Standards Board in 2007. He has served as Chairperson of the Japanese Ministry of Finance’s Council on Foreign Exchange as well as its Fiscal System Council (Fiscal Investment and Loan Program Section). Additionally, he has been a Board Member of the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan and President of the Financial System Council of the Government of Japan.

He obtained a PhD in Economics from John Hopkins University (where his thesis supervisor was Sir Alan Walters, Economic Adviser of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher).

He taught as assistant professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo (United States), was a visiting scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States), visiting scholar at the Central Bank of Japan, visiting professor at the University of New South Wales (Australia) and Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (Paris).

He obtained honorary doctorates from the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) in 2004 and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) in 2013. He also received the Fukuzawa Award from Keio University in 2013 for his contribution to research on economic policy.
