Measuring Prosperity

The workshop series on Measuring Prosperity is organized by the Global Solutions Initiative. It invites major contributors to the measurement of economic performance beyond GDP and the measurement of business performance beyond shareholder value to present and discuss their research, activities, and proposals.

The workshop series aims at bringing the measurement of prosperity in these two domains into consonance as a prelude to the consistent assessment of government policy and business reporting.  This assessment is meant to be a foundation for exploring new approaches to the formulation of government policies and business strategies in the service of human wellbeing. In doing so, a key priority is ensuring that the environmental and social effects of economic activity are taken into consistent account.

Participants will help to advance debates on these and related issues, including but not limited to new approaches to the collection of economic data, new methods of analysis, new questions concerning the nature of economic activity, and a new assessment of economic success. They will also promote convergence on dashboards of performance and develop ideas for the advancement and implementation of proposals in close cooperation between research, business and politics.

For questions regarding the seminar series or to receive a calendar invitation to future events, please contact Siddharth Padmanabhan at [email protected].

Countries have been said to be moving in the right direction when their market economies, as measured by GDP, were expanding. ... Read more
