Global Solutions Summer School & Summit 2021

The Young Global Changers program identifies, connects and empowers young people from around the globe engaged in different areas of society who are already actively pushing for change in their communities, enabling them to have an even greater impact. Each year, young changemakers from academica, business and civil society are selected to participate in the Global Solutions Summit as Young Global Changers. The new cohort begins the Young Global Changers program with a comprehensive one-week Summer School in Berlin.

As part of the Summer School 2021 the Young Global Changers participated in an interactive Online Simulation Game, which was played over several days from May 18 – 21, 2021. During the online simulation, up to 70 participants from around the world took on the roles of international decision makers and engaged in tackling some of the major challenges our globalized world is facing today.

The simulation game emphasized the need for systemic changes and underlined the importance of collaborative approaches. During the simulation, participants  received visual clues via the game’s interactive online platform. They were able chat with one another, deliberate, make allies, interact, discuss, bargain and negotiate. Within the simulation, all outcomes and effects of the participants’ decisions were visualized via several indicators of economic, environmental and social performance.

III. EXPERT DIALOGUE SESSIONS – MAY 25 & 26, 2021

On May 25/26, 2021 we offered a series of several online dialogues, as part of the Global Solutions Summer School. The overarching theme of these sessions was: How can we advance realignments in and across policy areas and address the need for fundamental systemic changes in our economies and societies in the wake of the COVID pandemic?
